Learning in Primary

At Blue Gum we make time for thinking, reflecting, experimenting and talking through ideas. Instead of rushing students from one activity to the next, we recognise that time spent working with a peer or a small group - to unravel a mystery or solve a problem - provides a rich resource enabling extended exploration to develop deep understandings. Through working together, thinking with others and navigating different points of view, the learning process becomes even richer; this highlights the central role of relationships within Blue Gum’s approach to teaching and learning.

Every day presents opportunities for students to learn with others through conversation, research and collaborative investigations. Deep engagement, commitment and a love of learning are our goals for every child at Blue Gum. Our teachers design daily learning experiences and provocations for students that invite deep inquiry, questioning and reflection, as they work towards mastering new skills. Students are tackling ‘the basics’, developing core skills and covering the breadth of the NSW Curriculum, through embedded learning experiences that ensure rich understandings of concepts are achieved and retained.

We keep our classes very small to enable teachers to work with students in a very personalised way, ensuring no one ever falls through the cracks. Every day, students are supported to question, design, think, problem-solve, experiment and learn in community; no two days are the same.
